BALTIMORE - Mortgage professionals from all over the state of Maryland gathered at the Center Club to honor the outstanding work of their colleagues at the annual Maryland Association of Mortgage Brokers (MAMP) Awards Dinner, held on Thursday March 11.

Association President Tina McKay of Ivanhoe Financial selected John Garofalo, CRMS of Metropolitan Mortgage Bankers in Silver Spring as the recipient of the 2002 President's Award in recognition of his long-term dedication to the association and his continued efforts to build special business benefits for the members of MAMP.

Patty McGill, CMC of Money Marketing, Inc., in Frederick was named the 2002 Broker of the Year. She was recognized for her long-term dedication to the mortgage brokering profession and to her role as chairman of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers' convention which will be held in Baltimore, June 2003.

Suzi Lawrence, CRMS of MGIC was chosen as Affiliate of the Year for her dedicated efforts and original programming ideas as the Association's education chairperson.

One of the highlights of the evening was the Community Service Award which was given to Georgia Crawford of the Bethel A.M.E. Community Outreach Center. Since 1997, Ms. Crawford has been the woman behind MAMP's annual community service Children's Christmas Party. Through the efforts of Ms. Crawford and MAMP, over 3,000 financially disadvantaged Baltimore City youngsters have been given a wonderful holiday meal and accompanying special Christmas gift.

The recipient of the Legislative Award was John Councilman, CRMS, CMC, of AMC Mortgage Corporation in Fallston, in recognition of his leadership on various Federal legislative issues impacting on the mortgage industry.

On hand to congratulate the award winners were Baltimore City Councilwoman Catherine Pugh and a representative from State Senator Verna Jones' office. MAMP President Tina McKay also received a citation from Governor Robert Ehrlich recognizing her for outstanding service to the mortgage community.

The awards dinner took place on the first day of the MAMP Convention for which more than 1,200 mortgage professionals and affiliates were in attendance. The 2004 convention will be held on March 16 and 17 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
