Financial Literacy Month Highlights Importance of Consumer Education;
NAMB & MAMB Encourage Homeowners to Take Advantage of Financial Learning Opportunities

The National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) and Maryland Association of Mortgage Brokers (MAMB) are applauding congressional efforts to recognize the importance of April as Financial Literacy Month.

U.S. Representatives Ruben Hinojosa and Judy Biggert recently introduced a resolution in support of the month-long focus on improved financial education. NAMB President Harry Dinham said sufficient financial knowledge is critical for every homebuyer.

“Buying a house is a significant decision,” said Dinham. “It is in everyone’s best interest that consumers have access to quality financial literacy education. This is the surest way to help them make wise decisions as they evaluate the various loan options available in today’s mortgage market.”

Dinham noted that NAMB sponsors several nationwide education programs including CreditSmart® and Credit Smart Español®. These two outreach efforts were created to help consumers understand, build and maintain credit.

NAMB has long advocated improving financial literacy among consumers starting in high school. In addition, NAMB’s consumer education efforts include the “Are You Prepared to Head Down the Road to Homeownership?” program, aimed at educating urban populations through community opportunities. The program was created to help first-time home buyers in high population areas navigate the mortgage process.

“Today’s global economy requires each of us to make sophisticated financial decisions every day. Improving financial literacy for people at all income levels is vital,” Dinham said, “and we applaud Representatives Hinojosa and Biggert’s efforts to help make this a reality.”

MAMB would like to thank it's Gold Partners in Education for their continued support:
